Thumbelina of Loreithia

At the end it was me, the swallow, whom had the chance to save Thumbelina from the mole (a sort of dirty officer of the dephts)  and take her to her new life, still misterious, but buoyant and in the search of sun...
... or not?

I decided to join in the last minute to the Three Worlds Fairytale Contest endorell-taelos.deviantart.com…   hosted by miss Endorell-Taelos miss mirz-alt and miss PiccolaRia

I'll come clean with this deviation. When I first saw the contest, I wasn't doing very well with.. contests and chose to let it pass, however in the last days I've been reading different fairytales and most of all, looking at different illustrations of the same, so in the end it really fit with what I wanted to draw.

For my entry I decided to do Endorell-Taelos's Luciana, a very pretty and interesting Oc with all my favourite colours . First I wanted to do something based on a chinese legend, but to spare the judges from trouble I chose Hans Christian Andersen's Thumbelina, a well-known fairytale I recently discovered the 1994 movie and really liked it, so I was in the mood of drawing it, together with the fact that I think it fits the character. Thumbelina was drawn away from her mum too, and suffered different abuses from toads and moles and bugs. In the end she becomes so much more than she expected, similar to Luciana's prophecy.  I depicted what would be the final scene of the story, when she earns her wings and becomes a queen/princess after marrying the fairy prince/king. However, to give it a little spin, I made a night magic  scene and something like dark wings, so she would be a night fairy. The flower is red representing the one where she was born ( or at least in most places I saw they mentioned it being red) there's the swallow, the butterfly that saves her in the river, and part of the fairy kingdom.

I really enjoyed doing this drawing. Hope you & the judges like it!
